The Blackwell Industrial Authority has recently upgraded its ability to market to warehouse and distribution firms through its acquisition of 98 acres of property less than one mile from Interstate 35. Blackwell currently has two large firms that serve specialty warehouse and distribution markets; Southwest Cupid (textiles) and Shepherd Oil Company (petroleum product distribution).
Like many rural Oklahoma communities, Blackwell has a strong agricultural heritage. Capitalizing on this heritage, Blackwell has seen several local companies grow to service this industry including multiple seed companies, an ag-lime distributor and cotton processing facilities. Growing the agricultural product manufacturing/distribution markets is one of the goals of the Blackwell Industrial Authority.
Niche market manufacturing has always been a key to the Northern Oklahoma economy. Founded on an economic base that specialized in the production of processed ore, Blackwell now employs various types of specialty foundry operators, machinists, welders and research and development specialists. These skill sets are invaluable in continuing to grow the economic base of the Blackwell community.
