Every community claims its work force is special, but we honestly believe that Blackwell's employee community is unequaled. Our citizens have a strong work ethic, value their jobs, and care about the products they produce. They repeatedly find better ways to do things to keep their company competitive. They are aided in their efforts by the city's 81 retail establishments, encompassing 581 employees and total retail sales of more than $40 million.


Strategic Location

Blackwell's companies are also helped to remain competitive by the city's strategic location. Specifically, Blackwell is located in North Central Oklahoma (16 KB) at the intersection of Interstate 35, Highway 11, and U.S. 177. As such, Blackwell is only 60 miles south of Wichita, 110 northwest of Tulsa, and 104 miles due north of Oklahoma City.


Community Information and Quality of Life

Blackwell's work ethic is encouraged by supportive community resources that enhance the quality of life for everyone: 

  • The community supports 22 Protestant churches and one Catholic church.

  • The city's industrial support services include a complete machine shop, a tool and die service, and foundry pattern manufacturers.

  • Blackwell has three hotels/motels with 153 rooms and a banquet room capable of accommodating 300 people. 

  • The community supports a local "daily" newspaper and radio station. Cable TV is also available.

  • The Blackwell Regional Hospital has 53 beds with six medical doctors, two dentists, two optometrists, four chiropractors, and four private clinics.

  • The City of Blackwell maintains 9 public parks and playgrounds, one Olympic-sized swimming pool, one nine-hole golf course, and six tennis courts. 

  • Along with an active youth center for youngsters, the city also maintains a 35,000 volume public library.

  • The city's outdoor activities are furthered by nearby Kaw Lake, covering 17,000 surface acres. Located 18 miles east, the reservoir offers sailing, swimming, fishing, hunting, boating, and skiing. Two marinas are also located there.

  • Local dial-up Internet access is available to Blackwell's citizens through 2 Internet Service Providers, Kay Electric (Rural Electric Cooperative), and Cherokee Woods. Further, Broadband Internet access is available through Get Real Cable and Cyber-Rover.

Certified Industrial Park

The West Blackwell Industrial Park offers 100 acres of prime industrial sites. The Park has achieved recognition by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce as a Certified Industrial Park. Targeted Industries

The community of Blackwell has targeted the following industries: PLASTICS, METAL FABRICATION, WAREHOUSE/TRANSPORTATION, FOOD PROCESSING, and AEROSPACE. Resources in support of these industries:

  • WAREHOUSE/TRANSPORTATION: Blackwell's geographic location to markets.

  • AEROSPACE: Blackwell's location on Interstate 35 in the center of the Oklahoma City-Tulsa-Wichita triangle, which is a $10 billion dollar aircraft market.

  • PLASTICS: Blackwell's private-company processing and selling of  propane, a feed stock in manufacturing plastic products.

  • METAL FABRICATION: Blackwell's existing foundries that make ferrous and non-ferrous precision castings, iron castings, grey iron castings. Also, steel and pipe fabrication, wood and metal patterns for foundries.

  • FOOD PROCESSING: Blackwell's market access and local mill involvement in food processing.

Financial Institutions

Blackwell has three progressive banks--Central National Bank & Trust Co., Home National Bank, and BancFirst--with combined assets in excess of $381 million.


Local Financial Programs

The Blackwell Industrial Authority, a public trust, can issue industrial revenue bonds to assist qualified companies finance land, buildings, and equipment. The Authority can also issue general obligation limited tax bonds. In addition, the Authority has a revolving loan fund that can be used as supplemental financing for new and expanding companies.


Major Oklahoma Business Incentives

FIVE-YEAR AD VALOREM TAX EXEMPTION: Machinery, real estate and equipment are eligible.

INVESTMENT/NEW JOBS TAX CREDIT: A credit of 1% on corporate income tax is allowed.

FREEPORT LAW: Goods, wares, and merchandise which enter and leave Oklahoma within 9 months are not subject to taxation.

SALES TAX EXEMPTIONS: Machinery and equipment used in manufacturing or processing is exempt.

CUSTOMIZED FREE EMPLOYEE TRAINING: Training is administered by Oklahoma Vo-Tech, recognized as the finest in the nation.

PUBLIC TRUST FINANCING: Financing of warehouse operations allows aerospace industries to lease property up to 40 years with a municipality through a public trust.

INDUSTRIAL FINANCING: The Oklahoma Finance Authorities provides low-interest financing through the issuance of general obligation bonds.

OKLAHOMA QUALITY JOBS PROGRAM: Payments are made to qualifying businesses for new job creation.
